Keep Important Information Handy
Phone numbers
A list of important numbers is an important part of your emergency preparations. Include phone numbers for:
- An out-of-town contact person (When phone lines are overloaded, calls outside the immediate area may get through when local calls can't. Designate an out-of-town friend or relative to be your family's point of contact.)
- Doctor(s)
- Hospital
- Pharmacist
- Poison Control
- Insurance Providers (medical, home, auto)
- Police department
- Fire department
- Public health agency
- Emergency management office
- Utilities
Important Family Documents
Keep copies of important documents in a waterproof container with your disaster kit and/or in a safe place away from home, like a safe-deposit box:
- Drivers' licenses or other identification
- Social security cards
- Passports
- Health insurance cards
- Immunization records
- Birth, marriage and death certificates
- Record of bank accounts
- Credit cards
- Insurance policies
- A list of belongings
- Wills, contracts and deeds
- Record of stocks, bonds or retirement accounts
